Trim work.

While I was away for two days at a sales meeting, the trim carpenters got busy with all the millwork.  Really looks good, and it isn't even caulked & painted!

Cased opening with transom between kitchen and pantry/drop zone.

Casing applied to screened porch french doors.

Crown & casing in family room.

Coffered ceiling in dining room is taking shape.  It will be so nice!

Crown & casing in library.

Landing windows cased.

French door and cased opening to Cyndy's writing closet.

The upstairs casings are simpler than 1st floor, by design.  We wanted upstairs to be more plain craftsman.

Master bedroom.

Doors to the master bathroom.

Baseboard also going in; 7-1/4" upstairs, 9-1/4" downstairs.  Shoemolding will come later.

The little bump-out sitting area in the master bedroom.

The other transom on the first floor, this one in the opening between the foyer and the hallway.

Doors and trim.

Some nice views of the primed exterior.

Hey look, all the trim bits and doors showed up!

Double doors with transom that will lead to the master bathroom.

Two transoms for 1st floor hallway openings.

Siding & trim all but complete.

The siding crew wrapped things up late today (02.21), leaving only a few exterior details to be completed down the road due to sequencing.

Porch columns wrapped and collared.

Side view of the columns.  They are nice and chunky, perfect for the style of the home.

All the board & batten looks great, and once paint is applied, it'll really pop.

Until screens & railings are installed, the rear porch columns will not be collared.

Hey look, there's Oscar in the foreground, half of Cyndy, and the house in the distance.

When Bug says the walk is over, it's over.  Bug is clearly in charge.

Details.

Justin the cabinet installer was busy all day, and we are so grateful and impressed.  He installed all of the crown molding, the light rail, and the toe kick.  Impeccable work.

All of the doors and drawer faces are built, but they need some time on the drum sander and then a coat of primer.  Should be painting everything by middle of the week.

More drawers put in place.

I cannot properly express how impressed and pleased I am with the quality of the materials and the workmanship.  The maple veneer interiors are flawless.

Some crown detail.

And some light rail detail.

My dream island.  Large and perfectly laid out for prep work and cleanup efficiency.  From right to left...dishwasher pocket; sink base; trash/recycling pullout with drawer above; and 3-drawer stack.

4 ft x 9 ft island!  Woot!!

The outer island bases will contain a couple of shelves each, which is great added storage.

Justin the installer remarked that "it's not a big kitchen, but it's huge."  That is a high compliment coming from a cabinet pro!  It certainly does "play" bigger than it looks.

Surprise!

So I rolled up to the site about 3:45 PM today, and...holy smokes we have cabinets!!

We also have a finished screened porch floor.

This porch is huge...we need some new outdoor furniture!

So excited that my pics are blurry.  Dang it!

Some cabinet construction specifics: all plywood boxes with natural maple veneers inside (clear-coat finish); solid maple faces, frames, and doors; dovetail drawer joinery; Blum "Blumotion" drawer & door hardware (full extension drawers, everything soft close); Blum trash/recycling pullout (soft close...and soft open!); and a Rev-A-Shelf blind corner swing-out.

This dude is one of Chad The Cabinet Man's suppliers; he dropped in with his kids and father to take a look at the build.  Turns out, the father is thinking of having the Morgans build a beach home for him on Oak Island.

Master vanity base.  Wonderfully spacious.  There will be a centered upper cabinet too, but it won't go on until the granite is in place.

Guest bathroom vanity, also quite spacious (it's 6 ft wide).

We had to add 8" to the wall separating the master bedroom from the bathroom, because we would have had clearance issues between the door casing and the cabinet/countertop.  So the opening went from 48" (2 x 24" doors) to 40" (2 x 20" doors).

Goddam blurry pic again.

Here are the lengths of toe kick, crown molding, and light rail that will be installed on/around the cabinets.

Uppers from right to left...refrigerator pocket with cabinet above; microwave pocket with cabinet above; double stacked cabinet; range vent cabinet (the actual vent insert will be 18" x 40"); double stacked cabinet; corner double stacked cabinet; double stacked cabinet, and the double oven cabinet with drawer below and spacious cabinet above.  That's Chad on the ladder, btw.
I'll cover the base cabinets and island set-up later.
